When it comes to recording CD and DVD, Nero is probably the first name that comes to our heads, but that doesn't mean it is the only tool we can use.
Droppix Recorder XE is an excellent alternative to other popular massive recording suites, with very clear advantages over them: it's lighter on resources, doesn't take that much hard drive, launches in half the time and provides you with all the tools you need to record CD, DVD and Blu-Ray. You'll be able to record disks with data, music or videos, generate image files and create copies, besides other extra tools with which to erase disks, rip audio CD and run benchmarks to evaluate the performance of your drive.
Droppix Recorder XE supports several types of disk for both audio and video recordings: music CD, MP3, VCD, SVCD and more. However I think it would have been nice of them to add a short paragraph explaining exactly what each option is about, as sometimes there's no clear difference (for example, the "mixed" "extra" options in the audio recording menu).
Despite these minor flaws, the interface in Droppix Recorder XE is pretty easy to use even non tech-savvy users. There's even a wizard-style interface to make recordings even easier, though it's inexplicably hidden (File > New > SmartDisc Wizard). Droppix Recorder XE also includes some extra tools such as a drive performance analyzer, a tool to erase rewritable disks and support to work with image files.
It may not be as popular as other recording suites, but Droppix Recorder XE is a great choice when it comes to burning CD, DVD and Blu-Ray: compact in size, light on resources and with a nice variety of tools.
